We Are God’s Gift

We are God’s gift to the world. That’s what it means to be an image of God.

Women are God’s gift to the world.

Men are God’s gift to the world.

Children (even the unruly ones) are God’s gift to the world.

LGBT people are God’s gift to the world.

Autistics are God’s gift to the world.

Journalists, novelists are God’s gift to the world.

Liberals, conservatives are God’s gift to the world.

Cynics, optimists, realists, Pollyanna’s are God’s gift to the world.

Writers, pastors, rabbi’s, atheists, intellectual are God’s gift to the world.

Actors, actress, talk show hosts, scientists, historians, Goths, punk rockers are God’s gift to the world.

Everyone I have and haven’t listed is God’s gift to the world and should be treated as such. We should treat each other as a treasure of love, grace, beauty, and joy. Life is a miracle and just to be who we really are is part of that miracle.

I could have ended here and called it good, but here comes the bad news.

We all sin and need a savior. A God who loves us in spite of who we are, what we have or haven’t done, but loves us way too much to leave us that way.  Now, I should say I am not that anything we are is a sin. To be a man, a novelist, autistic, gay, cynical, optimist, liberal, conservative, a Goth, or a woman is not a sin. To be who God created us to be is part of the gift God as bestowed onto the world with our life.

However, when we think only of ourselves and don’t help our brothers or sisters, or when we lie, cheat, steal, or think only of ourselves we have sinned. To sin is to edge God out of our lives. To sin is to make ourselves the center of the world. To sin is to make God and His word into our own image instead of being the image of God in the world.

We have all done things in our life to separate ourselves from the God of love, grace, and peace. However, Jesus has made a way for us to come back to God and live a life right with God.
